This woodcut depicts my paternal grandmother Berit,
based on a photography from 1938.
She is 12 years old in the photo, making her a child still, yet soon a teenager.
Berit died in 1987 which meant she was only alive the six first years of my life. My memories of her include images of illness, she would sit in a chair with what I can only assume was a lot of pain.
In this image, however, she comes alive.
Her look is mysterious yet warm, stable and confident.
Someone you can confide your stories.

With this print, I am specifically pleased with the depth that I managed to create in the background.
The wood lends its natural movement to the image,
and its structure makes the backdrop come alive.
The print depicted was given to my father
for his 75th birthday.
